The Doctor Is (Digitally) In At Westchester Medical Center

VALHALLA, N.Y. -- There was a time not long ago when getting a visit from the doctor meant a physician would do home calls. While doctors still aren't knocking on patient's front doors, thanks to Westchester Medical Center's new eHealth system, patients are able to receive top level treatment without having to travel great distances.

Thanks to Westchester Medical Center's eHealth system, patients are able to have follow-up appointments in real time with doctors based outside the hospital.

Westchester Medical Center's new Telepsychiatry program allows patients to visit psychiatrists across the state without having to make an additional trip. To make this possible, they turned to technology.

In the program, patients first visit the hospital to talk with a psychotherapist or social worker and discuss any pressing ailments. Patients are then scheduled for an immediate digital consultation with a psychiatrist located offsite. Instead of scheduling an additional appointment and making the trip to see the psychiatrist, patients are seen in real time right at the hospital.

"It’s a way to leverage technology to provide outstanding care to the entire Hudson Valley,” says Eric Amoh, Senior Vice President of Clinical Services for Westchester Medical Center, the flagship of WMCHealth."
