That's because the story she was assigned, a Swedish picture book called "The Yule Tomte and the Little Rabbits Storybook," seemed to her, to cry out for stuffed white rabbits. So, turning to the Moms of Pelham Facebook group, she asked for -- and received 12 much loved rabbits that are "on loan," and now ensconced in her tree at the museum.
As the only designer from Westchester asked to decorate a tree (the rest of the seven trees were decorated by designers from New York City, including the Bronx) Pirsu said she wanted the tree to represent Pelham and be personal to the community. "Hopefully children will go to the museum and try to find their little stuffed animal," she said.
The tree also gets its inspiration from Sweden where Pirsu says the scenery is very serene and clean looking yet also elegant. To that point, she used decorated muted colors – silver, rose and gold – with white accents and some little white birds for texture.
