Every Christmas Eve, Italians gather for the Feast of the Seven Fishes, a meal consisting of seven seafood courses, each one more savory than the last.
In addition to offering seafood additions to its menu for one evening, Growlers will serve seven distinctive Dogfish Head beers on tap. From a rare brew not typically offered on local menus to a beer with ancient origins, tradition will be served with a twist during this event from 7-10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17.
Highlights of the beers to be offered include:
- Midas Touch. The first in Dogfish Head’s “Ancient Ale” series, this brew is made with ingredients that were found in and repopulated from 2,700-year-old drinking vessels from the tomb of King Midas. This sweet, yet dry ale resembles something between beer, wine and mead.
- 120 Minute IPA: While most beers are only hopped at the beginning or end of the boiling process, 120 Minute IPA is continuously hopped for a full two hours, then dry-hopped daily in fermenters for a month and aged for another month on whole-leaf hops.
- Fort: Brewed with what Dogfish Head describes as “a ridiculous amount of raspberry juice,” this beer has a Belgian-style base and follows a fermentation process that mirrors the 120 Minute IPA. With a much higher alcohol content than most beers (Fort clocks in at 18 percent while most average 4-5 percent) and a fresh, tart taste, this beer also improves with age and is only available in limited quantities.
