From March to May, adults ages 55 and older are invited to participate in “From Page to Stage: Storytelling Through Playwriting.” This workshop will explore the fundamentals of how to write a scene and transform it into a performance reading.

“The library staff and I are excited to be offering a Creative Aging program once again to our community members,” Library Director Patricia Perito said in a statement. “We’ve seen firsthand the excellent work that has come from our participants in previous workshops. We know our teaching artist Frank Ingrasciotta will be an inspiration to our participants.”

Ingrasciotta is the 2012 United Solo Award winner for Best Comedic Actor and the writer/performer of the critically acclaimed one-man off-Broadway play “Blood Type: RAGU.” In this production, Ingrasciotta portrays more than 20 characters as he recounts his experiences growing up as a first-generation Italian-American. He has also written, directed and performed in many theater and TV productions. He teaches theater arts, creative writing and playwriting to students of all ages.

Participants will examine dramatic structure and character development through understanding conflict, subtext and dialogue. Writing prompts and other exercises will help kick-start the process of developing short theatrical pieces.

The workshop series will be held at the Town of Pelham Public Library and will begin March 1 and run from 10 a.m. to noon. The series will continue through Friday, May 3. A public reception and performance will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Although there is no fee to participate, registration is necessary because space is limited. For more information or to register, call 914-738-1234. The Town of Pelham Public Library is located at 530 Colonial Ave.
