"It's really an opportunity for people to reflect on the freedoms that we have and remember that our freedom really started out as Jewish people with slavery," said Rabbi David Shuck at the Pelham Jewish Center. "When we meditate on the fact that we were slaves, it's supposed to increase the sense of solidarity with others who are slaves today we can help try to bring people from darkness into light. That's really the purpose."

The Seder began as a way to provide people with a time to share stories about the Jews going from slavery to freedom, Shuck said. "It means we have an obligation to take care of people who are vulnerable in society today."
