Each year, the New Rochelle Council on the Arts celebrates local art with special galleries, open studios, workshops, live music, tours of historic districts and a myriad of arts-based activities.

Various New Rochelle organizations have ensured that the weekend will be packed with activities highlighting lower Westchester’s cultural and artistic diversity. There will be tours of Charles Fazzino’s Museum Editions studio, trolley rides through the historic districts in New Rochelle on Pelham and an antique car show.

Those touring downtown New Rochelle lately have already been given a sneak peek of the excellence they can expect at ArtsFest, after the city commissioned 15 local artists to decorate fleur-de-lis statues that were then installed downtown.

Hands-on activities over the weekend include a community painting project at the soon to be named Ruby Dee Park at Library Green, a belly dancing demonstration, and various activities at the Pelham Art Center. It will also be “LEGO Day” at the Huguenot Children’s Library on Saturday.

The weekend festivities will conclude at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Library Green with the unveiling of the community project and a concert featuring the Villalobos Brothers, a trio that has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Rainbow Room and Shea Stadium.
