“We made a conscious effort to put together a menu of arts experiences this year, including more interactive art projects,” says Theresa Kump Leghorn, president of the New Rochelle Council on the Arts.

“For example, Highbrook Studio, which is home to five working artists, will have a still life display set up all day so that visitors can try their hand at drawing, along with the artists.”

A hands-on workshop and “hot metal pour” will be held at the Pelham Arts Center, 155 Fifth Ave., Pelham, where visitors can see how some of the sculptures were created by observing the metal casting process and, for a $20 materials fee, make their own metal pour sculptures by carving molds and then allowing the artists to pour the molds on-site.

A community “paint-in” will be held with Art Par-Tay at Library Green on Sept. 27 during the afternoon. Materials and instruction will be provided, and no experience is necessary. Seating is limited, and advance registration is necessary. Participants can register by emailing info@artpartay.com.

Other hands-on activities include Lego Day at the Huguenot Children’s Library, 794 North Ave., New Rochelle, and free classes – including belly dancing -- at Westchester Yoga Arts, 49 Lawton St., New Rochelle.

A drum circle will be held at Lincoln Park as part of the third annual Lincoln Park Arts & Culture Festival.
