The Armonk Outdoor Art Show is taking place at 205 Business Park Drive this weekend, featuring 185 world renowned artists in all facets of art. The art show has been an Armonk institution for more than 50 years, with more than 8,000 people expected to attend.
"We're really excited," Marian Hamilton, who has worked on the art show for 13 years. "We have watercolors, acrylic, jewelry and woven goods. We have a wonderful selection for anyone's interest for a wide price range. We meet everybody's budget. It's going to be a beautiful weekend."
There will also be a good court and activities for children, who are admitted for free, including a treasure hunt. There will also be personal shoppers to help people purchase art, along with tours of certain artwork.
"This will be a fun-filled day for the entire family," Hamilton said. "We take a certain amount of pride in running this event. We take care of the artists. This is a great community event. It's quite the happening."
Admission is $10, with proceeds going to the North Castle Library.
"I have a real affinity, a love for this art show," Hamilton said. "We really think this is a worthwhile endeavor."
Not just anyone can be in the art show. Only 185 artists are selected, whittled down by a jury. Artists from 35 states, Canada and France will be represented. Hamilton said an artist from Driftwood, Texas is her favorite.
"The quality of the artists gets a little better every year," Hamilton said. "We really push our artists. We tell them to keep growing. Just because you're from Armonk doesn't mean you get it."
The jury meets from March to April for three hours a meeting to select the artists.
"It's a very involved process, we have to have a high quality show," Hamilton said. "Artists like to be associated and affiliated with high quality shows."
At this year's show, 25 percent of the artists are new.
"This puts our sleepy little town on the map," Hamilton said. "I am always running into people who say the art from their house is from the art show. It makes me feel pleased and proud."
