The “Rally for Reform, March for Our Lives” event will be held beginning at noon on Saturday, March 3 at City Hall, where Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas plans to rally with local students in advance of a bus trip to an anti-violence rally in Washington, D.C. later this month.

Among those invited to the rally include Sen. Chuck Schumer, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Olympian Deajah Stevens, comedian JB Smoove and Diddy.

The rally comes in the wake of several violent incidents in the region, including a fatal stabbing in New Rochelle and a shooting in northern Westchester. The march comes amid several threats that forced school closures following the mass shooting in Parkland, Fla. earlier this year that took the lives of 17 people.

Those interested in participating in the rally can join officials on the steps of Mount Vernon City Hall at Roosevelt Square beginning at noon on Saturday.
