Officers got suspicious when one the men got of the car near the fence line of the Hertz rental facility at 4 o’clock this morning, the authority’s Joseph Pentangelo said.

As it turned out, the car had been missing since 5 o’clock last night, he said.

Pentangelo said he couldn’t confirm the report, but a source at the airport told CLIFFVIEW PILOT that the duo returned in order to use Hertz’s gas pumps and avoid paying for fuel.

Arrested were James Johnson, 18, of Jupiter, FLA (above photo, bottom) and 22-year-old Eric Bradley, of Newark, who used to work at Hertz and was driving the vehicle, Pentangelo said.

Both were charged with theft.
