Jankowski Aims To Boost 'Warrior Spirit' In Wilton

WILTON, Conn. – Boosting the “Warrior Spirit” and showing how great a place Wilton High School is to the greater community are the big goals of Jack Jankowski, the new Wilton High student body president.

He is pushing to make changes to welcome the rest of the town to his school as well as to get his fellow students involved and engaged.

“We hope to involve a lot more people, and people will get to see how great Wilton High School is,” said Jankowski, 16, who was elected president in May.

The most noticeable change he and others are promoting this year is a new student festival, which will take place before next Saturday’s homecoming football game. The festival will feature student clubs, and Jankowski says it will showcase the school and what the students do. Homecoming, he said, has often been focused just on the dance and the game.

“We hope people will stay longer and see the whole high school atmosphere. The administration was very helpful.”

Jankowski, who has been interested in student leadership since his days at Middlebrook School, is also working to boost Warrior spirit among his classmates, encouraging students through the student council to be open and personable to everyone.

“Being in this position allows you to interact with everyone,” he said. “It allows you to have your voice heard. I love being a representative for everyone and working with the administration.”

Hearing from all students about issues, even as small as a dimly lit hallway, allows good things to happen, Jankowski said. “I love being around people and hearing all the ideas and coming up with good ideas.”

Jankowski is also a tutor, president of Wilton High’s chapter of the National Honor Society and a member of the school’s baseball team. Jankowski said he’s thinking of studying politics when he goes to college next year. “I’ll see where it takes me,” he said.
