Man Charged With Having Gun at New Canaan Hospital

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — An Easton man has been arrested on charges of being intoxicated and carrying a loaded handgun while trying to check into Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan.

Stephen G. Raymond, 48, of Blanchard Road, appeared at the Valley Road hospital Dec. 13, New Canaan police said. In the course of being admitted, he acknowledged that he was carrying a Ruger .380, officers said. They said Raymond appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs and was later taken to Norwalk Hospital for evaluation.

Police got a search warrant, and a blood test subsequently showed that Raymond had alcohol in his system. He was picked up by state police last Wednesday and turned over to New Canaan officers. He was charged with having a firearm in his possession while intoxicated and held on $10,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Feb. 14.
