Fun Ball, a games course, was created by Horace Greeley High School teacher Bobby Herodes, who literally wrote the book about the sport in 2010.

Fun Ball players are divided into two teams and given seven foam balls, with one brightly colored “Power Ball.”

The popular tournament, which was started in 2005, evolved from dodgeball. Players tag each other with the foam spheres to score points.

According to newcastlenow.org, students of all ages and genders -- and teachers and staff -- participate in the annual event.

This year’s tournament is set for 2:45 p.m. Friday in the gym at Horace Greeley High School, 70 Roaring Brook Road, Chappaqua.

All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the high school’s scholarship fund, the school district said.
