Fall Into Film At Pelham's Picture House In October

Friday, Oct 10 at 7 p.m. 

30th Anniversary Screening of "Ghostbusters." Join The Picture House and PACT for a family night out in Pelham for the 30th anniversary screening of the family favorite classic, “Ghostbusters.” Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, the late Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson star as a quartet of Manhattan-based “paranormal investigators.” When their government grants run out, the former three go into business as The Ghostbusters, later hiring Hudson. Armed with electronic paraphernalia, the team is spectacularly successful, ridding The Big Apple of dozens of ghoulies, ghosties and long-legged beasties. Tickets are $5 per person and $20 per family.   Friday, Oct. 17 at 9 p.m.

Teen Movie Night  – “Weird Science”

Introduce your teen to the movies you loved in high school! “OMG – I Love that Movie,”  The Picture House’s new monthly teen movie series, starts off with “Weird Science,” which tells the story of a pair of nerdy high-schoolers, outcasts to everyone, who take to their computer and magically bring to life a stunningly beautiful woman whose devotion to them – and not to mention her special powers – make them the most desired kids on the block. Tickets are $5 per person. Monday, Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon

Columbus Day Camp – Comedy Acting  Join us for a day of comedy acting at The Picture House. Learn all about improvisation, comic timing and how to create funny scenes and characters in just minutes. Saturdays, Oct. 18 and 25 from 9 a.m. to noon Horror Filmmaking Workshop Just in time for a Halloween, make your own horror film in this hands-on filmmaking workshop over two weekends in October. See your goryy final product on the big screen the week of Halloween. Open to students grades four through seven. Cost is $150 for the two weeks and screening. For more information and to enroll, call 914-738-3161 or click here.   Monday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m. Battle for the Elephants Presented in Conjunction with the Wildlife Conservation Society Join The Picture House and the Wildlife Conservation Society for a special screening of National  Geographic’s documentary “Battle for the Elephants” followed by a discussion of the film with James Deutsch, vice president, WCS Conservation Strategy, and the filmmakers, John Heminway, Katie Carpenter and JJ Kelley.

This important film tells the ultimate wildlife story — how the Earth’s most charismatic and majestic land animal today faces market forces driving the value of its tusks to levels once reserved for precious metals. A post-film reception at Bistro Rollin, 142 Fifth Ave., Pelham, is also available at an additional cost. Tickets are free for members (limited number available – screening and discussion only); $10 for non-member screening and discussion; and $75 for screening, discussion and reception and are available. Advance Screening and Discussion of “The Italian Americans,” a new film for PBS with special guest New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the screening beginning at 7 p.m.  

The Picture House, the National Italian American Foundation and WETA, the flagship public broadcasting station in the nation’s capital, invite participants to a special advance screening and discussion of a new film for PBS, “The Italian Americans.” Narrated by actor Stanley Tucci, the series explores the evolution of Italian Americans from the late 19th century to today, from “outsiders” once viewed with suspicion and mistrust, to some of the most prominent leaders of business, politics and the arts today. Friday, Oct. 31 at 10 p.m. and midnight Halloween Screening of “Rocky Horror Picture Show” Celebrate Halloween with a loving couple, a few lost monsters and a sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania. Sing and dance through a campy, sloppy salute to horror movies and sexual liberation. Bring your sense of humor. And some toast. Tickets are $5 per ticket.
