Following an exhaustive, nationwide search, the New Rochelle YMCA Board of Directors unanimously ratified the appointment of Richard McCarty as the organization’s newest CEO, a position he accepted earlier this month.

Before taking his talents to New Rochelle, McCarty served in the same role at the New Britain-Berlin YMCA for five years, where he “led a reorganization and turnaround, engineering a financial, programmatic and community recovery for a 133-year-old organization,” according to the Board.

New Rochelle YMCA Board President Martha Solinger said that McCarty will “further the mission of the Y in the areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.”

“We are excited for Rich to bring his energy, passion and commitment to the New Rochelle YMCA and the communities it serves,” she said. “He has been extremely successful in his past YMCA endeavors and we’re sure he will do the same here.”

Prior to his time working with the YMCA, McCarty held positions in various fundraising and development roles for nonprofit organizations. A graduate from Fairfield University, he also has experience working for both Aetna and SNET before his career transition into the nonprofit field.

In an open letter to the community, McCarty said that he was embracing his new community and welcomed one and all to come meet the new CEO of the New Rochelle YMCA.

“There was a time in my work history that I searched for quiet office space. When I worked for some big companies, that seemed to be the norm: you couldn’t find the CEO’s office, let alone get to it,” he mused. “So I’m going to tell you where your CEO lives at 50 Weyman Ave., on the second floor with a great overview of the gymnasium. Please knock and say hello.”

McCarty said that he’s hopeful his experience turning around the New Britain-Berlin YMCA will help him now that he’s taken the helm in New Rochelle.

“It’s an honor to serve the New Rochelle, Pelham and Parchment communities as the CEO of the YMCA,” he stated. “The YMCA plays an important role in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility across the country, and I believe we can build stronger communities here with the assistance of great members, talented staff and committed volunteers.”
