Palumbo, a Bardonia resident, opened a TITLE Boxing Club in Ardsley at 901 Saw Mill River Road last February and was recently honored by the company with its Rookie of the Year award. Palumbo decided to open up her own gym after trying a boxing workout.

"I loved everything about it," Palumbo said. "There's nothing like it. It gives your body an overall workout. The conditioning is unbelievable. It's not like you're just bored on a treadmill."

Palumbo was convinced to start doing boxing workouts by her husband and son.

"I had always worked out on the treadmill or elliptical machine," Palumbo said. "But I was able to get a full body workout in an hour."

The boxing workouts are non-contact and involve hooks, uppercuts, and working heavy bags.

"You build endurance and cardio," Palumbo said. "It's very challenging."

Palumbo grew up in a business background, with her family owning a pizzeria. She said while owning a business has its challenges, the rewards are great.

"Our customers really love it," Palumbo said. "It's like a family here. We get people from all over Westchester."

Customers will tell Palumbo about how it's reduced their blood sugar level or how great they now feel.

"I love hearing people's stories," Palumbo said. "Our oldest member is 83 years old and he comes and hits the bag. His doctor tells him whatever you're doing, keep doing it."
