Julie Zwisdak, 24, has been in discussion with the village zoning and planning boards to ascertain the necessary permission to convert a former café into the new dog grooming salon, and its final inspection was completed this week.

With the inspection concluded, the salon is slated for an October grand opening. Much of the discussion with Zwisdak and the owner focused on whether the small business fell within the permitted use of the business district.

“It has been a roller-coaster ride,” Zwisdak said. “There were a lot of ups and downs during the planning phase.”

An online petition supporting the dog grooming salon was circulated over the summer by Kim Zwisdak. As of Thursday afternoon, 27 signatures had been collected, though the creator hoped for 100.

Zwisdak and her boyfriend, Larry Van Nostrand, are both certified dog groomers that have been honing their craft since 2007. Groom Spot is currently booking appointments and have scheduled a Halloween Puppy Party next month.

“I have had pets my whole life, they become a part of the family,” Zwisdak said. “My boyfriend and I have been grooming dogs together for years. I’m very big on pet safety and creating a comforting environment. I want these dogs to enjoy being groomed as much as I enjoy doing it.”
