Burbio.com is a free digital calendar sharing service that features more than 2,000 school, sports and community organizations from across Westchester.

Burbio’s “Buy Local/Give Local” program will launch in Pelham and Yorktown in May and expand throughout Westchester County in the following months.

“Burbio’s goal is to make it easier for communities to organize themselves through a free, simple and easy to use calendar service,” said Julie Roche, Burbio.com's co-founder. “Local commerce and nonprofit fundraising are integral parts of local life and this initiative reinforces our mission.”

Among the nonprofits participating are The Picture House Regional Film Center, which features independent, international and documentary films, special screenings, and educational events, and the Pelham Art Center, a regional arts nonprofit that serves thousands of children and adults with high-quality, free and affordable art programs.

“Local merchants are big supporters of The Picture House and this program allows them to both support TPH and build their business,” said Laura deBuys, president and executive director of The Picture House.

“The Pelham Art Center has been very committed to the health and vibrancy of the local business community, as robust businesses help us achieve our goals as an organization as well,” said Lynn Honeysett, executive director of the Pelham Art Center.

The program also is partnering with the Yorktown Athletic Club, which operates leagues in 10 different sports for the youth of the community, and Yorktown Organizations United (YOUnited), an umbrella organization for nonprofits in the region.

“Burbio's 'Buy Local, Give Local' gives community service organizations a turnkey tool for fundraising that feeds on the good will of customers in the normal course of commerce,” said Bruce Apar, president of YOUnited. "Everybody wins."

Nonprofit supporters will register credit cards through Burbio.com and program donations will be tracked through purchases at local businesses that control the timing and amount of offers.
